Helpful Tips for Using this Blog
Welcome to the PEI Writers’ Guild Blog Site on wordpress.com!
This blog contains information that might be useful or interesting to writers, especially those living on PEI and in the Maritimes.
If you are not sure how to find things in this blog site, you might find this page helpful. If not, please don’t hesitate to send us a comment and we will do our best to reply as soon as possible.
Viewing
If you are having trouble reading the blog entries because the fonts are too small to see comfortably, you should look for the View menu on Firefox, or the Page menu on Internet Explorer, then select the Zoom option and increase the font size to something you can comfortably read. All browsers will have an option to Zoom, so you just have to find that to increase the font size. Some browsers display a magnifying glass that can be clicked on to increase font size. Your browser may also provide you with an option to increase the page size, so that you can see everything in proportion.
Pages
You will find several buttons at the top of the blog. Clicking on any of these buttons will bring you to the Main Page of the section indicated. To go to sub-pages in each section, you will need to find the sub-page you want in the right-hand column under the PAGES button. Each main page (except the HOME page) and its sub-pages are listed in this column. To go to a sub-page, simply click on the line you want. You will notice that the line you are on will be highlighted. This helps you make sure you are clicking on the page you want to view.
Reading/Searching
Current blog entries are displayed on the HOME page. To access the HOME page, click on the HOME button at the top of the site. Everytime you access the blog, the first page displayed is the HOME page.
Because not all blog entries can be displayed at a given time, you need to scroll down to read them. Only recent blog entries will be on the home page. To see earlier posts, you can scroll to the bottom of the page and click on PREVIOUS POSTS. You can also search for the ARCHIVES section in the right-hand column of the blog. To search the ARCHIVES, click on the button that says SELECT MONTH. A drop-down menu will be displayed. You can then select the month you want to read ARCHIVES of by clicking on the month. This will display the blogs posted during that month.
You can search for specific blogs by topic or category. To do this, look for the CATEGORIES button in the right-hand column of the blog. When you click on the button that says SELECT CATEGORY, this will also display a drop-down menu that lists the categories by which blog entries are sorted. When you have selected a category, all blog entries classified under that category will be displayed, with the most recent at the top.
A general SEARCH option is included in this blog at the top of the right column. Directly beneath the Headline separator in the upper right-hand corner of the site, you will find a blank white box with the text “type and press enter”. Simply type in any word or phrase you want to search for and press the enter key on your keyboard. The site will display all content that contains the word or phrase you are searching for. Simply click on the highlighted title of the blog or page to view the full blog entry or page that you want.
Links
The blog contains several links, both within the blog site and to other Internet sites as well. The section SITES TO SEE found in the right-hand column of the blog contains links to related or interesting sites, including the host sites for this blog, wordpress.com and wordpress.org. Organizations and institutions that are affiliated with the PEIWG or that contain interesting and useful information to members and blog visitors may be found in this section. The blogmistress is constantly reviewing sites that might be of interest to writers to include in this section. If you have a site to suggest for review, please contact mimrlith@yahoo.com or email us at peiwritersguild@gmail.com
Several blog entries will contain website addresses pertinent to the information contained therein. You can visit those other sites by simply clicking on the highlighted web address. The linked site will open in a new tab, which you can simply close when you are done with it.
The MEMBER page contains a directory listing of all current members. Each member’s name is linked to that member’s page in this blog. Member pages can also be accessed through the member list found in the right-hand column under PAGES. Some members have provided email addresses. Clicking on these will automatically open a blank email. For members who have provided addresses to their personal websites, you can view their websites by clicking on the website address provided in the MEMBER page or in the individual member’s page. This will open up a new tab in your browser where the member’s site can be seen.
The blog site also contains links to forms. These forms are PDF files that can be read using Adobe Acrobat Reader, or any other software that reads PDF files. The forms can be printed from the file on your printer, or saved as PDF copies in your computer.
Comments
All blog entries have a LEAVE A COMMENT button right under the title of the entry. If you want to respond to a blog entry, make a comment, or ask a question, simply click on the LEAVE A COMMENT button and a dialogue box will open. You can type in your comment and this will automatically be sent to the blogmistress. Not all comments, however, will be displayed. WordPress.com has filters for comments that might be considered spam comments. The blogmistress, likewise, will review all comments that might be considered spam and publish only those comments that have content that conforms with wordpress.com guidelines and are useful to the readers.

Strike Fire for New Authors
In the fall of 2011 Hagios Press will celebrate a publishing milestone as we release our 50th title. Hagios Press has been the home of many books by first-time authors, and to celebrate the arrival of our 50th title we are launching a new book series: Strike Fire New Author Series. Hagios Press takes pride in our focus on developing exciting new writing through our intensive editing process. We are pleased to announce that the first in the Strike Fire New Author Series will be The Cellophane Sky: Jazz Poems by Jeff Park of Saskatoon, which will be published in September 2011. Jeff Park first came to the attention of Hagios Press in 2007 through his publication in their anthology Fast Forward: New Saskatchewan Poets. Park is a professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Saskatchewan. The Cellophane Sky is his first volume of poetry.
Hagios Press is now welcoming entries for the Strike Fire New Author Series for 2012, between May 1st and August 31st, 2011. Hagios Press is asking for samples from book-length collections of poetry, short fiction (short stories, novellas) and creative nonfiction. Submissions must be from writers who have not published a book, or who have published one book and are submitting a manuscript in a genre different than that of their first book. A submission will consist of a manuscript sample of no more than twenty-five pages, a short synopsis of the book, and a literary resume. Hagios Press will accept submissions by mail only. The Strike Fire New Author Series is open to all Canadian citizens meeting the publication criteria. Writers and manuscripts selected for the series will receive publication in the fall of 2012. Please send submissions to: Hagios Press, Strike Fire New Author Series, Box 33024 Cathedral Post Office, Regina, SK S4T 7X2.
